League Standings
With Oakland and Seattle tied for first place with 8-4 records, the A's host the Padres in attempts to better their previously futile record against the San Diego squad. Last year the Athletics, then in Boston, performed miserably, winning only 1 series against the Padres, and being swept numerous times.
Seattle faces off against San Francisco and then comes home to face the Squirrel Demons at home in their first encounter with the new club. While the Mariners offense has been about league average so far in the young season, their pitching staff has been phenomenal, with a team ERA of 2.77. Newly-acquired Felix Hernandez leads the team with a minuscule 1.69 ERA, while Gavin Floyd has limited opponents to less than a hit every two innings.
Although it is early in the season, the league looks to be competitive throughout the season, much better than last year when Minnesota started out a lowly 5-20 and only 3 teams finished above .500.
