Seattle active again
Seattle continues its busy off-season by trading Shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt to the ball club in San Francisco in exchange for second baseman Orlando Hudson.
With the acquisition, Seattle has acquired a strong depth at second base with Orlando Hudson, Rickie Weeks and Howie Kendrick all vying for playing time. There are rumors that Weeks's lack of defense and poor 2008 offensive number may send him to the minors, and Seattle may go with a platoon of Kendrick and Hudson at second.
San Francisco landing of Betancourt may indicate an end to the Edgar Renteria's era at shortstop. The Giants management was apparently unwilling to go with the declining defense and poor offensive showing of Renteria. The moving of Hudson, only one year after he was acquired from Pittsburgh opens the door for slugger Dan Uggla who's 30+ homeruns only adds to a lineup already boasting of Prince Fielder.
